CUT WORKER

Cuts can be created by multiple passes of a shovel, grader, scraper, or excavator, or by blasting. One unusual means of creating the pieces is to remove the roof of the tunnel and illuminate it with daylight. The material being removed from the cut is ideally balanced with the material needed to backfill the same course, but this is not always the case when the cut material is not suitable for use in backfill.
The word is also used with the same meaning in mining, as in an open cut mine. Cutting often provides by-products as a form of mineral extraction, usually sand, clay, or gravel. The cost of constructing drains, strengthening banks against landslides, and high groundwater levels are factors that usually limit their use in certain areas.
There are at least two types of cuts: side cuts and limited cuts. The first allows a carriage road to pass along or around a hill, where the slope is extended by the road or railway. A side cut can be formed by side casting, i.e., balancing the cut on the high side by moving the material to build up the low side to
1 achieve a flat road surface. In contrast, limited cutting, when the adjacent grade is higher on both sides of the road, requires removing material from the area where it cannot be unloaded along the route
